MORE Loony Knoll Adventure

"The next morning dawned fresh and fair. We continued on our way to Loony Knoll, heartened by the knowledge that in a few short hours, our long journey would finally be over...

What a BEAUTIFUL morning!

We soon found ourselves climbing up into the clouds...
Wow, this is HIGH UP!

There was great excitement as several Knottwoodians recognized Kakabeka Falls!
Ooooooh!

The sound of its thundering water was truly awe-inspiring!
How AWESOME!

The water seemed to cascade over stair after natural rock stair!
Hope nobody falls IN...

Of course, Per Gunnar Thorssen insisted on taking us down into the gorge to see the Kakabeka Power Plant... It's HUGE, actually...

...Where he explained that the Falls are actually shut OFF at night to provide power for the area!
Those pipes are bigger than the tallest man!

...leaving the remaining water in the gorge silent and low...
Wow, WHAT a view! Click here to look through the BINOCULARS...

Per also insisted on pointing out the limestone shelves...
Er... rock, you say?

...as well as teaching us all the Latin names of local flowers...
Scarlet Lichnis... what an ODD name...

A lecture which lasted until the cafe and gift shop marking Loony Knoll Road came in sight...
YAAAAY!

We were all FAR too excited to SPEAK as we bumped our way over the old bridge...
Yes, that's Varna taking the photographs!

Ten minutes later, we were all tiptoeing through the Secret Gate!
Ooooh, spooky!

Frail silver birch trees and stately white pines seemed to sigh and whisper excitedly above as, one by one, we entered the silent Northern boreal forest...
It's so SILENT here...

Familiar objects such as the old twig bench greeted us warmly...
Made by Teresa!

Delicate flowers clustered about the pine-needled path
NO Latin names, Per!

What a BEAUTIFUL foxglove!

A wild ROSE!

How lovely!

But as we went ever deeper into the woods, the atmosphere grew subtly more sinister...
A totem?

The little statues, at first just quaint and charming...
A FAIRY! How adorable!

...seemed to move and whisper as we passed...
Charming!

We glimpsed strange, half-seen figures out of the corner of our eyes...
Very wizardly!

OHmigosh! A BEAR!
Nobody panic!

WAIT a minute... Isn't that Loki puppy?
It's one of the DOGGIES!

HE'S so gentle, even very old LADIES love him!
What a sweetie!

"LOOK, Holly Noelle! Our FIRST SIGHT of Loony Knoll Cottage!"
It's the first visit for both Grandma Pearl and Holly!

"Here at LAST!"
Now for a good REST!
And now for the actual HOLIDAY...
